History of the Tricolor: India’s first national flag was hoisted on August 7, 1906, at the Parsi Bagh Square in Kolkata. At that time, the colors of the flag were red, yellow, and green. In 1931, the tricolor flag was officially adopted as the national flag. This flag consisted of saffron, white, and green colors, along with Mahatma Gandhi’s spinning wheel in the center. Over time, some modifications were made. The addition of the Ashoka Chakra in the middle of the tricolor took place. The Indian tricolor was officially accepted on July 22, 1947. On August 15, 1947, it was first hoisted.

In the tricolor, the topmost color is saffron, symbolizing the strength and courage of the nation. The middle white color represents peace and truth. The bottom green color signifies the fertility, growth, and auspiciousness of the land. The Ashoka Chakra, which also represents the wheel of law, has 24 spokes symbolizing the forward movement in life.
